We’ve had a long association with Fair Trade coffee. In fact, we were the first coffee company in New Zealand to import Fair Trade organic coffee back in 2002. We did this because it was just a better way to do business. We send our roasters over to some of the origins we buy from on a regular basis to build good working relationships and see first hand how things are progressing. This also gives us the opportunity to see some of the tree replanting schemes in operation, see how the Fair Trade premiums are being spent and where there might be other areas to allocate future resources.
We’ve made a conscious decision to evolve the way in which we purchase our coffee. After being on the hunt to broaden our coffee origins and finding some spectacular certified organics like Panama and Costa Rica, we thought why not, due to the high quality of such coffees and the assurance of no nasty additives, become 100% certified Organic and/or Fair Trade Organic. Over the past 2 years we have been hand-selecting only the best coffee we can and hence evolving our coffees into 100% certified Organic.
