It’s Giving Art: RE:START, 15 Years On
Fifteen years after RE:START became part of Hummingbird Coffee’s story, we're bringing the blend back into the spotlight – with a limited-edition pack featuring the work of artist Nathan Ingram.

Ōtautahi Christchurch has always been a big part of who we are. It's where Hummingbird found its wings, and a city that has taught us a thing or two about community and creativity.
When the earthquakes hit in 2011, the heart of our city changed overnight. In the months that followed, new spaces appeared and people found new ways to come together.
For us, that meant opening a pop-up café in the RE:START container mall and creating our RE:START blend, with 30 cents from every 200g pack sold at the time going towards The Court Theatre rebuild, an initiative that raised $100,000 over two years.
That commitment to giving back has continued through our Green Bean Fund, supporting communities here in Aotearoa, alongside our longstanding commitment to coffee-growing communities we work with.
Fifteen years on, RE:START has a new look.
It's Giving Art sees our RE:START coffee reimagined with Signal-1 by Christchurch artist, designer and educator Nathan Ingram. Originally created across a central-city basketball court, the work uses bold colour, geometry and movement to transform an everyday space.
Now, the artwork has taken on another life – moving from the city streets onto our limited-edition RE:START pack.
"It's taking a different approach to Hummingbird's previous packaging, and I think that shows an openness to supporting artists, a willingness to experiment and a willingness to embrace change. Those are all things that I associate with Christchurch as well." – Nathan Ingram
And in a connection we couldn't have planned, RE:START was already the coffee Nathan drank every morning.
It's Giving Art builds on our principal partnership with The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi, including a dedicated Springboard Award for an emerging Christchurch artist.
Our limited-edition pack celebrates the role that art and creativity continue to play in shaping what comes next.
Look out for the limited-edition RE:START pack on shelves now.
